There are tons of different face masks on the market that claim to be able to give us radiant, glowing, acne-free skin.

Despite this, you can often claim more effective results from the natural ingredients you keep in your pantry at home, which contain a plethora of nutrients essential to the health of your skin.

With this in mind, here are the top 5 DIY masks you can make at home to achieve glowing skin.

  1. Aloe vera and lemon juice.

Comprised of two miracle workers for the skin, this DIY face mask can be made by blending aloe vera gel and lemon juice, 8 parts to 1, though you can dilute the lemon juice further with water if you find it irritates your sensitive skin.

Aloe vera is antibacterial and anti-inflammatory, so it helps to reduce breakouts and redness, while hydrating the skin and boosting collagen production, since it’s chock-full of amino acids.

Lemon juice, on the other hand, is bursting with Vitamin C – an anti-ageing, brightening agent for the skin – and its acidic pH helps to buff away dead, dull skin cells.

Simply apply the mixture to your face and leave for 15 minutes before rinsing it off and moisturising.

  1. Turmeric, milk and honey.

Turmeric is an anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory, containing a ton of beneficial minerals for the skin, including potassium, magnesium, vitamin B6 and vitamin C, which have been shown to treat acne, brighten pigmented patches of skin and stimulate the production of collagen and new skin cells.

Moreover, honey is naturally anti-microbial, helping to fend off spots and breakouts, while milk prevents your skin from staining as the turmeric works its magic.

To create this mask, simply mix together equal teaspoons of milk and honey and a ¼ teaspoon of turmeric before applying to the face. Leave for 10 minutes before rinsing off the concoction.

  1. Olive oil and lemon juice.

As we know, lemon juice has incredible brightening and skin buffing qualities, while olive oil moisturises and delivers a ton of antioxidants – and Vitamins C, D and E – to the skin.

To make this DIY face mask, simply mix together one tablespoon of olive oil and a ½ tablespoon of lemon juice. Apply the mask in a thin layer on your face and leave for 10 minutes before rinsing off.

  1. Banana and milk.

While bananas are an excellent source of nutrition for you, they also provide incredible nourishment to your skin.

Bananas contain B vitamins that protect against free radicals, vitamins A, C and E which help to brighten and heal skin and stimulate the production of collagen, in addition to Lectin, an antimicrobial compound that fends of acne-causing bacteria.

To create this mask, blend half a banana with two tablespoons of milk and leave the mixture on your face for around 20 minutes before rinsing off.

  1. Egg white, lemon juice and rose water.

Combining the brightening qualities of lemon juice, the soothing, anti-inflammatory properties of rose water and the high-protein egg white that promotes tissue health and taut, strong skin, you’ll have yourself a DIY face mask that enhances your skin from every angle.

Simply blend together an egg white with one tablespoon each of lemon juice and rosewater before applying the mix to your face. Leave for 10-15 minutes before rinsing.
